Covid Secure June 2020

Covid-Secure patient journey

At Lovat House Dental, we understand the current situation has been a testing time for everyone. We wish to ensure we can still care effectively for you and your dental needs.
Following best practice guidance from the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Chief Dental Officer for England, we have re-designed the way patients interact with and use our dental services.
We thank you for your patience, as from June 10th 2020 we initially see patients with urgent care needs and then safely move towards providing a full range of general and specialist dental care.
If you have any of the symptoms of Covid-19/Coronavirus, then please let us know as soon as you can; do not attend your appointment and follow the government guidelines around self-isolation.

The doors of the practice are closed and attendance is via scheduled appointment only. Our aim is to minimise your time in the practice, for your own safety.

Before Your Appointment
One of our dental team will contact you to establish the nature of your visit.
We will ask you some questions to establish your Covid-19 history and medical status and request a medical history is completed through our online Portal.
Where possible, payment via card over the phone will reduce your time in the building on the day.

On The Day of Your Appointment
Before setting off, please visit the bathroom because our disabled toilet will be closed for routine use, since it requires thorough disinfection after every use.

To minimise contacts, please do bring your own pen, in case any paperwork requires signing. For the most part, electronic signatures are used.
Personal belongings are kept outside the clinical rooms, and so bring only essential personal valuables and coats.
When you arrive, please wait socially-distanced on the drive outside the practice, or in your car if you arrive early and telephone reception.
To minimise persons in the building, please ensure you attend your appointment alone, unless you require assistance or are supporting a single child or someone vulnerable.

Entering The Practice
When it is time for your appointment, one of our team will call you in from the front door in person, or on your mobile phone if you are in your car, to notify you to approach the practice.
Before entering the practice, one of our trained colleagues will take your temperature and ask you again about symptoms of Covid-19 to ensure you do not have a fever and only invite patients at low risk of Covid-19 in further.
You will be asked to sanitise your hands and shown how to place on a facemask that we will provide at the entrance hall.
For hygiene reasons, you will leave any loose belongings (coat/ bag) in the designated box provided.

In The Treatment Room

Throughout the practice, our teams will be wearing extra Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). In order to provide you with the right care and service, they cannot adhere to social distancing recommendations. This may mean that it is more difficult to see our colleagues and clinicians’ faces, or to hear them, but please be reassured that they will be the usually friendly team.
Naturally, we are also ensuring that each treatment room is carefully cleaned and disinfected after each patient, as well as contact points like door handles.
You will be asked to wash/sanitise your hands and to place your facemask into a plastic bag during treatment.
You may be asked to use an antiviral mouthwash in the treatment room and to only spit into a cup/funnel provided and not the usual spittoon.

After Treatment
You will be asked to replace your facemask and wash/disinfect your hands.
Outside the treatment room, please collect your belongings from the designated box.
Fee payment is request before, or on the day of your visit, either over the phone or on our disinfected card machine at reception. No cash is accepted.
Before you leave the practice at the side door, you will dispose of your mask.
Further appointments are ideally scheduled over the phone or via email, although reception has protective screens in place, and is still available for those who require it.

The international shortages of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) have been well publicised including the price of some types of PPE increasing by 100% to 1000%. To meet revised best practice in safety and infection control, more time is now required between each patient’s visit. These two factors have lead to our operating costs significantly increasing to provide high quality care.
We will be adding a PPE supplementary charge to every patient’s visit in relation to this.
Current fees will be:
£5.85 for Level 1 PPE (for example an examination visit)
£42.85 for Level 2 PPE (for example some filling procedures or crowns)

Get in touch

In the event of an emergency

Please contact the practice as soon as possible.
Registered patients will usually be offered an appointment on the same day, if the practice is open.
We will try to accommodate new patients, but priority is always given to our existing registered patients.
During weekends and bank holidays, when the practice is closed an emergency contact number is available on the practice answering machine. This service is available to registered patients only. The on call dentist will be able to offer advice. If the practice needs to be opened for out of hours treatment a £150 call out charge may be incurred as well as charges for any treatment carried out.

I joined this Practice earlier this year when I had a lot of dental pain. Andrew Barber sorted everything out very quickly and efficiently and I was so pleased. Since then he has restored my teeth to their full dental health. I am very impressed by the whole team here. Amy, the hygienist, is such a perfectionist too and my teeth have never felt so clean! Their care during the current situation has been superlative too. We are lucky to have this practice in more

I do not normally post reviews of my experiences with service and quality in any sphere as a customer, but I make an exception following my recent treatment at Loval House Dental under the expertise of Andrew Barber and his team.It is not an exaggeration to say that he has transformed the comfort and function of my dentition beyond memory. I have only been under his care for about 2 years, with my greatest improvement in that time, for which I am very grateful.Thank more

Really great friendly completely pain free service. Went in for root canal work and was very surprised at how painless and comfortable Andrew and his assistant (sorry, can’t remember her name) made it for me.We managed to complete the work in a single sitting. They’ve even phoned me a few times since to check that everything is still ok.Which is nice.I would definitely recommend Lovat House for anyone looking for a dentist.I now fear the tattooist more than the more

My Barber suggested that I should see my GP regarding the acid erosion I had been experiencing for many years. As a result of this, and the investigations that followed, I was diagnosed with a Haitus Hernia. It is clear that this had been causing acid erosion and I am now on appropriate medication to reduce acid reflux. I am very grateful to Mr Barber for identifying that there was a medical problem underlying my tooth erosion more

Mr. Barber carried out a dental implant for me, filling a gap that I have had for some years. I am very happy with the result – I now have my smile back! He ran through the process thoroughly at the beginning, and at each step of the treatment. He explained both the work to be done at each stage and the costs involved. I am happy to reccomend the practice to anyone considering having this kind of work more

I visited Andrew following the completion of my orthodontic treatment to see what could be done to improve the appearance of one “peg” tooth. He talked me through the pros and cons of all the options available. I elected to have a composite build up and I am so pleased, the tooth looks absolutely fantastic and I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending him to friends and more

It was a delight to find Dr James Barber after many years of indifferent treatment on the NHS. I have now been now registered with James for nearly 5 years and had a number of dental treatments. Every treatment has been painless and without complication. James is both extremely professional and very personable, I’d have no hesitation in recommending more
